Good restaurants in Baltimore and Washington DC?

Not looking for a chain restaurant or anything fancy. When my husband and I travel we like family owned restaurants that prepare food that is native to the area that we are traveling to. We will be in the area June 6-13.Good restaurants in Baltimore and Washington DC?
Donna S, I've found a nice directory of restaurants that might help. You can drill down the Washington results by cities nearby to you. If you call nearby restaurants you can narrow down wich one would work best for you. http://www.restaurantreviewsratings.com/Washington-Restaurants.html
Those are a few off the top of my head, Remember DC is a combination of foods

In Maryland

Max's (jewish food) Wheaton

The Kosher Dragon (Kosher Chinese food)--Rockville (near White Flint Mall)

Irene's in Wheaton

Nick's In Wheaton

Plato Diner In college Park

Castle Diner in Annapolis

VA

Dawg Trolly-Crystal City (50 different type of Dogs--near Pentagon City

DC

Ben's Chili Bowl

Soul Cafe on K st

Capital Diner (a block from the White House on Penns ave)

I know it is a chain, but try the Hard Time Cafe--Great chili everytime I have gone

Whenever you go, have a great trip. If you need more suggestions, email me anytimeGood restaurants in Baltimore and Washington DC?
If you're in Baltimore during the day, you really should try the Lexington Market, one of America's oldest running market buildings, and the lump crab cakes at Faidley's Seafood are the best in the Chesapeake. There are also some great chicken places there too. In Washington D.C., I think everybody should try the Old Ebbit Grill. It's old Washington (in fact, the oldest), good food and not stuffy. If you want a great hot dog, try the half links at BEN'S CHILI BOWL. A certain well known Hollywood comedian was know to have them flown in until his wife put her foot down. (Also GREAT oyster shuckers at Lesington!) Have a great trip!
Since you said family owned no chains - and native --seafood here are my suggestions DC

I was recently in DC, and I went to Ben's Chili Bowl. It is not fancy at all, but the food was so good! I loved the chili half smoke.

You can take the Green line metro to U Street/Cardoza and it is right across the street from the station.

Also nearby is CakeLove, which has some awesome cupcakes!

I also went to the African American Civil War Museum after I ate!

The other place I always eat at is Filomena's in Georgetown.
Check out Baltimore's Harborplace. Nice view, and dozens of food choices.

Then if you're interested you can visit the Aquarium, Science Center, or the nearby sports stadiums.
What kind of food are you looking for?
