One of our favorites is Zaytinya (701 9th Street NW) - Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East mezze (think tapas).
We've heard good things about PS7 (777 Eye Street NW) and Co Co. Sala (929 F Street NW) but haven't eaten there ourselves.
the matchbox, on the chinatown side of the verizon center, is by far one of the best places to eat in the area. they have amazing food. pizza, burgers, sandwiches, and salads with a hint of gourmet. its perfect. the atmosphere is great, too. its a great chance to get a feel for the d.c. lifestyle. happy hour is awesome. the place itself is tiny and has two floors but i've never had to wait more than ten or fifteen minutes for a table. its fun, hip, and delicious. What are some good restaurants near the Verizon Center in DC?
If you're looking for good food and not all the hassle of needing to dress up, Matchbox (corner of 7th and H) is reallygood. Food is great and different menu presentation of typical foods (a favorite appetizer of many is the 3-6-9 mini burgers). Great place to go for happy hour as well.
Zaytinyah is good as well, however the food is rather inconsistent- when it's good its really good, when not so good- disappointed I just spent that much money.
you should go into chinatown, there are a few dim sum places that are fun and not too expensive. wok and roll is really cool, it has a mix of sushi places. there are also a lot of generic little resteraunts there too and i hear rosa mexicano is really good. it's not hard at all to find a good place to eat there.
I like:
Rosa Mexicano -Guac made in front of you!
Jaleo's-Spanish -Spanish Tapas they have the best sangia
Zantinya's -mediterrean tapas
Ruth Chris Steak House -very good steak-expensive-it's all al carte
Seafood- McCormick and Schmidt's or Legal Seafood
The Chop House is about a block down from the Verizon center and the food is really good. Other suggestions include:
Clyde's
Zengo
Bar Louie
Thai Chili
arcadia, clydes, legal seafood, ruby tuesdays
