Looking far a good vegetarian restaurant in Washington, DC?

I'd recommend The Vegetable Garden--it's famous for delicious Asian vegetarian food! Amma Vegetarian Kitchen is also great.

But if you would like other choices, there are plenty in Washington; here's the link to a comprehensive directory:

Good luck!Looking far a good vegetarian restaurant in Washington, DC?
i don't they have an vegetarian only restaurants..but most of the restaurants have vegetarian options on their menus..

check on the washington d.c website on google just to be sure...
As someone who lives here, I assure you there are plenty!! Go to www.vegdc.com, www.happycow.net, and www.vegdining.com.

There's Java Green on 19th Street NW, just north of K. It's a Korean-inspired eco-cafe with sandwiches, salads, rice bowls, soups, and other specialty plates. Except for cheese in a few dishes and organic milk, they're vegan.

Around the corner on K Street, near 18th, is Nirvana, a vegetarian Indian restaurant. Also very vegan friendly. Beautiful restaurant, really good food (although kinda spicy), good service.

On 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan, there's Amsterdam Falafelshop. Okay, it's vegetarian by default since all they serve are top-your-own falafels and fries. But it's good stuff.

The closest thing DC has to an upscale vegetarian place is Vegetate on 9th Street. When they're good, they're really, really good, but there have been many times I've been quite disappointed. I've had the best service when it's just me and my boyfriend and not in a group.

Most of the places in the area are veg-friendly.

Going into the suburbs:

Vegetable Garden in Rockville, MD--it's across the street from the White Flint Metro station. It's a pan-Asian type place. Good food, a bit expensive. However, they have a super dinner combo for $17 that is very filling.

Just up the street from them, about a 15 minute walk from the Rockville Metro station is Yuan Fu, which I believe is a breakaway from Vegetable Garden. It's a smaller space, but a bit cheaper than the Vegetable Garden.

In College Park is Berwyn Cafe. It's a homey little restaurant with sandwiches and platters. I don't go very often because it's not very Metro-accessible.

The best option in Virginia is Sunflower Restaurant. There's on small location in Vienna, and about a year ago, they opened up a second location in the Seven Corners area. Sunflower is a Japanese-Chinese insired restaurant.

There are a couple of places I haven't been, one because it isn't transit-accessible (Saravana Palace in Fairfax) and another because it's apparently new and also isn't transit-accessible (Lotus Vegetarian in Chantilly).

Hope this helps.

Edit: To the poster below: Sticky Fingers is in Columbia Heights, a block and a half from the Metro. I can't believe I didn't mention them, but they're more of a cafe than anything else.Looking far a good vegetarian restaurant in Washington, DC?
My sister lives in D.C. and I am there at least one weekend a month. Being that she is not a vegetarian, Tara Thai is one of our favorite places. They have a great vegetarian menu and serve many tofu dishes. There are several in the area (I know there is one in Bethesda and on in Rockville), just do a google search.

There is an AMAZING vegan bakery and cafe in Capital Heights. It is called Sticky Fingers Bakery.

I have seen many other restaurants but it has been tricky convincing my sister to go. There is one in Rockville that looks really good. The Vegetable Garden. It has been chosen by Democrat Congressman Joe Lieberman as one of his preferred dining places!

I think others have suggested it but go to Happycow.com. There are tons of restaurants in the area. Have fun exploring!
Here is a list of Washington vegetarian restaurants and health food stores.
