What is the best seafood restaurant in or around DC and why?

Depends on what you're looking for.

For upscale dining, it's Oceanaire: http://www.theoceanaire.com/location/ind鈥?/a> Everything is fresh (was probably swimming yesterday) so the list of menu items changes daily based on what they caught. They have a beautiful wine list that compliments what they serve and knowledgable wine stewards to help you select if you need assistance. They have an oyster bar if you're into that...

Kinkead's: http://www.kinkead.com/kinkead/kinkead.h鈥?/a> This restaurant is #17 out of DC's top 100 restaurants (Washingtonian Magazine) and it's won so many awards over the last decade or so I can't even begin to list them all. It's just the quintessential seafood dining experience.

If you want something really good that's a bit less out of your wallet, try Hank's Oyster Bar (2 locations): http://www.hanksdc.com/ Again, everything is fresh, fresh, fresh (which is the first key to the best seafood) so the menu changes daily, and you can order small plates to try a variety of items. This is a great place to go with a group so you get to try a lot of things for a smaller check in the end.

My personal favorite is probably Tony and Joe's: http://www.dcseafood.com/taj/index.htm I just the food, love the view, love the people, love the brunch buffet on Sundays, love the freshness of the fish, love the crab cakes, and I especially love the lunch specials! (If you go here, save a little room for dessert and get either the chocolate pudding (warm with cream on top!) or rice pudding. I know... sounds weird with all the DC big-doodle dessert places, but both are wonderful warm comfort foods and done perfectly at Tony and Joe's.)

One more... I like The Dancing Crab: because I think they have the best Maryland Blue Crabs available in town and they're the "parent restaurant" for Tony and Joe's so give them a whirl too: http://www.dcseafood.com/dancingcrab/ind鈥?/a>What is the best seafood restaurant in or around DC and why?
Good Seafood and DC...the two words just don't go together honestly. The seafood restaurants here in the DC area are just plain lousy. Even the expensive ones!

The Chart House in Old Town Alexandria is consistently above average as a seafood restaurant. Hard to beat reasonable prices, consistently high quality and atmosphere. What is the best seafood restaurant in or around DC and why?
McCormick and Schmicks, the seafood is fresh and plentiful.
Zola...isn't a seafood restaurant but they serve some great seafood dishes...EXCellent quality and atmosphere.
my favourite resto... http://carmineristoranteitaliano.dgte.ph
DC Coast and Oceanaire are my faves. They are classy and delicious.

For something less expensive, I like Sequoia in Georgetown.
