What's your favorite restaurant in DC and why?

My husband, son and I will be in DC in a couple of weekends and we love fine dining. Please give us some ideas. What's your favorite restaurant in DC and why?
I don't have a particular favorite for fine dining, but I'll give you my favorites organized by the type of food:

La Tasca -- Chinatown. Authentic spanish mini-dishes. Tasty. Prices are high but they run some great specials during the week.

Kanlaya -- Chinatown. Authentic Thai food, very tasty.

Cubano's -- Silver Spring. Authentic Cuban. Modest, quiet resturant with good food.

Bombay Gaylord -- Silver Spring. Funny name, but amazing Indian food.

If you want to do breakfast, I *HIGHLY* recommend the Saturday morning specials at Market Lunch on the South Hall of Eastern Market. You will be able to find the place by the line that will stretch across the market, outside the door, and down the side of the building. It will take a while, but the experience is worth it. :)

I asked my roomate for some extra suggestions, and she came up with:

Old Ebbitts Grill -- 15th st. -- Oldest saloon in the DC area. Exceptionally good food at reasonable prices. Reserve early though, this place gets packed!

Sequia -- Georgetown -- Very expensive (but good) sushi.

Finally, there are many websites that do reviews of resturants, but the one that has been the most consistently right (and that I have relied on) is the Washingtonian:

They have more than just a cost/benefit rating -- they actually describe in a few paragraphs each resturant. It's very good for finding a resturant who's decor and food fit your style...

Welcome to DC. And good luck. :)
The White House. What's your favorite restaurant in DC and why?
1789 in Georgetown--So romantic and cute! Always rated as one of the best in area. http://www.1789restaurant.com/main/index鈥?/a>

I also like Citronelle, which is more modern, but very elegant French food. http://www.citronelledc.com/

For sea food Kinkead's is the best. http://www.washingtonian.com/dining/Prof鈥?/a>

You can find more info and reviews at the Washingtonian website:http://www.washingtonian.com/dining/defa鈥?/a>
Lariol Plaza (18th and T) because of the salsa. Be prepared to wait.
I was impressed by the restaurant called "Food for Thought" located next door to the "Black Cat". I liked the fair they served as well as the fact that they had a great selection for those who didnt eat meast (as for those who did). The food was of a good quality as well.
There are some terrific restaurants in DC.

Ben's Chili Bowl is a great local place.

Cityzen is the hot happening place, but expensive

I like using http://www.eatsleepgo.com/DC.html - it has all the restaurant/hotel reviews from the major publications; all plotted on a map.
Is not exactly in DC, but in Arlignton, Close to DC.

fast food: Super CHiken.. tehy are awesome... SO is Pollo RIco in Arlington. THey are cheap %26amp; taste delicious... is Charbroiled chicken. i guarantee you will like it.
If you like sea food and sushi then Todia is a great place to go. It is located in the Fair Oaks mall I believe. My family and I drive 225 miles to eat there at least twice a year and it's worth it. Hope you like it. It is also "all you can eat". It's great!
for fine dinning in dc the only resturant is the prime rib and order the imperial crab its the best in the country. the place is plush service great but be prepared to take a loan out to pay for dinner. norman
