If you've got cash to spare, Legal Sea Food or Clyde's are great restaurants. If you're looking for the casual scene, try Hard Rock Cafe.
I wouldn't do one of the chinese places there for a first date as although there are a cople of good ones you always run the risk of seeing something not so appetizing in a chinese restaurant downtown. I would go a clock down to the Clydes next to the Verizon Center or two blocks down to the DC Chophouse.Any good Restaurant in Chinatown, Washington DC for first date?
there really isn't a chinatown in DC. It's more of a chinablock...
Clyde's ..It's nice and romantic with great lighting. and then maybe if dinner goes well, Lucky Strikes could be next.
Jaleo is closeby, it's a tapas place, great for a first date. If you're in to Mexican, try Rosa Mexicana by the Verizon Center. It's awesome. Have fun!
Full Kee is one of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown, you can check them out at www.fullkeedc.com, the food is reasonably priced and it has a nice atmosphere, would be fitting for a first date. I know it is chinatown, but you also might want to consider Thai, they have some great Thai restaurants there as well, Kanlaya is pretty good. However, my best piece of advice is to skip chinatown and go out to Annandale, VA to get some Korean food. Most people have not done it and it is a very fun experience. They have a huge raw bar where you pick out all different types of raw, seasoned meat (note: any food you dont eat you have to pay extra for, they dont like waste!). You then take it back to your table where you have a little heater in the middle and they cook it for you at your table (but you dont sit with others like at a Japanese steakhouse). I think this would be an excellent selection for a first date, it is fun, and it gives you a lot to talk about just with the events going on at the restaurant, and you look interesting by taking them to a place that a lot of people have never experienced.
I had a great first date once at Matchbox. They have awesome martinis and wood-fired pizza. After dinner why not head over to the movie theater or bowling at Lucky Strike?
My all-time favorite restaurant right near Chinatown, is Zaytinya. It's a bit trendy and pricey, but so worth it. The food is Mediterranean mezzes - small dishes. Sharing mezzes makes an intimate date!

If you book a reservation, be sure to indicate where you'd like to sit. The upstairs is quieter and more intimate, but it lacks the NYC-style romance of the rest of the restaurant. Downstairs, the area to the right of the bar is more intimate than the main dining area, located straight ahead when you enter.
legal seafood
there is a great place called "The Cat and Dog"...

the food is awesome, though a little peculiar tasting ;-)
Capital Grille, a couple blocks away.

6th and Pennsylvania.
