Question concerning Crown Plaza Hamiliton in DC and restaurants?

HI!

I'm visiting DC next week for the first time and booked my stay at the Crown Plaza Hamiliton (1001 14th St NW). Is this a safe location and is it within walking distance of the Smithsonian and other museums? Additionally, can someone recommend some casual restaurant/grill type places to eat as well as upscale bars for the 30 and up crowd? Any help is appreciated!Question concerning Crown Plaza Hamiliton in DC and restaurants?
This is a fairly safe location at 14th and K NW, a little quiet at night and there is a pretty big homeless population that gathers in the park across the street from there, but they are mostly harmless and if you don't go deep into the park, you'll be just fine. You have quite a hike to the museums but you are only 2 blocks from the Metro which can get you back and forth very nicely.

Restaurants--- try Courdoury in the Sheraton 4 Points which is at 12th and K; it is dynamite stuff and very good for the money for a little fancier evening. On the more casual side, venture up to Connecticut Avenue and take your pick; the closer to DuPont Circle you get, the more choices you will have (although it is also kind of a hike so take the metro). There is Bistro du Coin for casual french which is always good; Johnny's Half Shell for seafood; you name it, you can find it somewhere in the DuPont neighborhood. For bars, if you truly want upscale, try 1223 (it's written in Roman numerals in the ads) or Dragonfly, both on Connecticut Ave. And the bar at the Mayflower hotel on 16th and K is always a nice spot.
