Best places that you have to visit in Washington DC?

In may im planning to visit Washington DC, i will be close to the Ronald Reagan Airport.



My question is:

How is the weather on that time, what type of coat you recommend me to buy, Do you recommend me globes?

Wich are the best places to go and visit in Washington DC?

Wich are good restaurants with a good price, not expensive to eat there?

How is the best way to move to visit those places? train, rent a car, bus.Best places that you have to visit in Washington DC?
The Metro(our subway) is the best way to get around here if you are visiting.

Union Station just to name a few things.



The weather in May can be warm one day and cool the next...sometimes even down right hot, like last Memorial Day weekend...so best bet is the light spring jacket.



One thing I have not seen anyone mention is shoes...wear good comfortable shoes as you will do a lot of walking...I will never forget the time I was in DC and I over heard this girl (who was wearing really high heals) say...I had no idea the monuments were going to be so far apart...duh! They are far apart and if you walk to them you will need the shoes. If you don't want to walk so much you can go to Arlington Cemetery and buy a ticket for the tour-mobile and it will drive you from site to site...get off of one mobile and soon after another one will come and collect you! Was a great way for me to get around when my kids were really little. I believe you can get tickets at Union Station and somewhere in the city as well. As for eating...usually when I am in DC I just grab a hot dog or something in one of the museums cafes...Old Town Alexandria is not far from Reagan and there are lots of good places to eat there...Wharf, Fish Market, Chart House, plenty more and great shopping. Oh, and the dinner boat cruises on the Potomac are nice too!
Take one whole day just to walk around the mall and visit the memorials. They are awe inspiring. Spend any free time you have at the museaums. Take several days and see the museaums also.Best places that you have to visit in Washington DC?
You don't need gloves in May, but you may need an umbrella and a light jacket. You've got to see The Spy Museum, it's terrific! They teach you how to spy, and then they teach the history of spying. Really enjoyable.



For restaurants, go to Adams Morgan, which is near downtown and a short walk from the Metro. I like Fasika's for ethiopian food, which is delicious. There's also a restaurant for food from Ghana and there's The Diner for American food. They're all reasonable and right next to each other on 18th Street. If you want to go to 13th and U, which has a lot of clubs, you should try Ben's Chili Bowl. They're known for the hot dogs, but their chili cheeseburger is outstanding. You can always get cheap meals at hot dog carts, too, and I consider the hot dogs second only to Chicago and better than New York.



Don't rent a car, take the metro. Reagan airport has a metro stop, and most places downtown have one, too. It's not expensive and it's very clean.

In May, probably chilly but nice. You should definitely have a warm jacket with you, if you plan to be outdoors very much.



My favorite place in D.C. (where I was last weekend) is the Smithsonian National Zoo. We went especially to see Tai Shan, the first panda Washington has successfully bred. He and his mother, Mei Xiang, are very easy to view in one area, while papa, Tien Tien, can be seen next door. It's a great attraction and since you'll be there in better weather than we were, I'd recommend doing the whole zoo. It's fabulous.

Weather is good so light jacket and light gloves if you are person who feels cold as nights are still cool.



The National Mall with all the museums and history of the USA. My favorite is the giant glass greenhouse with plants from all over this country and other parts of the continent. Plus the air and space museum with the entire history of flying. There are planes and rocket ships and everything from the first airplane ever for you to see and you can even go inside and touch some of them. Everything is in one area so you can walk from one end of the mall to the other and see everything about USA and history in one place.



Good restaurants everywhere at very reasonable prices for a large American city. Menus and prices are often posted in window so you can see what is available and what it costs before going inside.



Ride the subway trains everywhere as they are an excellent system for a good price and will take you everywhere. It is an easy to use system based upon colors. Maps everywhere make it easy to use.

May is pretty warm but there can be some cold days. Usually around 60 for the high. I would suggest a light spring jacket and you probably wont need gloves. Best place to visit is the spy museum. Best resturant Matchbox, its an upscale pizza place and not too pricey. Best way to get around is metro.
Take the Metro everywhere. Your hotel probably has a shuttle to the closest stop. http://www.wmata.com/ Type in your station and the address of where you want to go, and it will even tell you how to walk there. I lived just north of Reagan, crystal city, and it is a short trip into the city.



National Cathedral = awesome piece of architecture

Mt. Vernon = Washington's House, so fun

The Monuments at night = so pretty

Kennedy Center = free shows every night at 6 pm

Folger Shakespeare Library/theatre = only if you like theatre or Shakespeare

Holocaust Museum = puts things in perspective

Any Smithsonian Musuem = Personally liked National and American History





While living there, I found the best site for shopping, eating, touring ideas was the tourism site, http://www.washington.org/. Lots of choice for eating, most are going to be a little on the pricey side. Go to Five Guys, there's one in Chinatown. It's a burger place. All my friends who like burgers love that place.
