Best restaurant in Washington DC?

Its going to be my boyfriends birthday soon and i want to do something special for him. He doesn't really like parties but he loves trying new foods and going to new restaurants. He likes anything that taste good!!! Any ideas towards where i should take him? (A memorable restaurant please...)

Thanks for the suggestions/ideas/placesBest restaurant in Washington DC?
You don't say how old you guys are or how much you want to spend, so the answer will depend a lot on details... and things like whether you would like to do wine pairings with the food etc. I'll throw a couple of ideas out there though :)

If he's a real foodie, he would probably love a tasting menu/chef's table experience or to visit a celebrity chef restaurant (run by the folks he may have seen on Food Network or Iron Chef competitions etc)

Teatro Goldoni has a chef's table experience with 7 courses for $75 per person: http://www.teatrogoldoni.com/DC_italian_鈥?/a> This is about average for the area.

There are so many excellent restaurants with extraordinary tasting menus... they range from about $65 to $100 per person and some favorites would include Komi, Restaurant Eve, Palena, CityZen and MiniBar at Cafe Atlantico. At most of these places, beverages are not included, most offer wine pairings for an additional charge.

If price is an issue, then choose a restaurant with a pre fixe (fixed price) menu where you select a certain number of courses for a particular price. You might also consider taking him to lunch over dinner. That's always less expensive. One favorite celebrity chef restaurant with reasonably priced options is Kora (Chef Morou - he competed in Next Iron Chef) It's in Arlington as opposed to right in DC.

Also Cafe Atlantico does a 14 course tasting menu that's a latino dim sum sort of thing on Sunday afternoons: http://www.cafeatlantico.com/latinoDimSu鈥?/a>

Some other celebrity chef places would be Art %26amp; Soul (Art Smith), Volt (in Frederick, MD - The chef/owner is one of the Voltaggio brothers who competed on Top Chef), Ann Cashion, Eric Ripert and Jose Andres are all very popular (and well-known) and they each own/operated several restaurants in the DC area. Mike Isabella is no longer with Zaytinya and his new restaurant (Graffiato) will not be open until February.

If you wanted to do an "all day food adventure" through DC, he'd probably love that too. Pick out several places he may have heard of and just stop in for a little tapas/treat each place. On that list, I'd put Good Stuff Eatery. This is a burger and milkshake place owned/operated by the very popular Chef Spike from Top Chef a couple of seasons ago. I'd also add in there Zola or at least pop into Spy City Cafe (by the International Spy Museum in Penn Quarter) and have Zola bites in there for a lot less $$ Something like that would require a little planning and an all day Metro pass but foodies love to munch and check out different places, so... just a thought :)

You might also consider a top-rated restaurant that has a "Pre Theatre Menu" like Tosca. You get three courses (appetizer, main and dessert) for $35: http://www.toscadc.com/menu-tasting.shtm鈥?/a> sort of an "early bird special" 5:30-7:30pm. Tons of restaurants have early/pre-theatre menus that can save you lots of money and still give a special experience.

This is the top 100 restaurants in DC area by Washingtonian Magazine. Details and reviews are included and they're ranked in order: http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a>
Hi. no offense to the people that gave you suggestions but DC has MUCH better restaurants for special occasions. I am not taking price into consideration when i list the following restaurants so please forgive me if they are a bit high. I worked in a restaurant review industry and ate/visited all of the top restaurants in DC. here are my suggestions:

1. Komi.

2. The Source

3. BLT Steak ( I love red meat)

4. Bourbon Steak

5. Prime Rib - (if you want something special and 'old fashioned' take him here. coat and tie are required and its very stuffy inside but i love that type of atmosphere. they have piano player, etc...)

6. Blue Duck Tavern

7. Marcel's - love this placeBest restaurant in Washington DC?
I visit D.C. quite frequently. It is one of my favorite cities in the country, you could visit 10 times and still not experience everything, including the food. Every time i visit D.C. I make it a point to eat at the Old Ebbitt at least once. It has some amazing food. The restaurant is styled as almost an English pub. It's located between the White House and Metro Center so it is also very centrally located. If you want to check it out you can look at their website.

there are some amazing restaurants in DC. I would check out the ThinkFoodGroup, with chef Jos茅 Andr茅s, and Passion Foods restaurant group. Both have great restaurants with a ton of diversity and a good price for great food.
I recommend the kitchen at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. ! ask for Executive Chef Crsitita Comerford!
