good luck!
Sadly, the best dim sum restaurants in the area are not exactly in DC. The best in the area are:

Hollywood East Cafe http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a> and Hollywood East Cafe on the Boulevard http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a> both in Wheaton

A%26amp;J in Annandale: http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a>

A%26amp;J in Rockville: http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a>

Fortune in Reston: http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a>

Fortune in Falls Church: http://www.washingtonian.com/restaurantr鈥?/a>

Of the restaurants listed by the first poster, I'd have to say Tony Cheng's is the best... and it's certainly in town... but the dim sum during the week is off the menu, so best to go on weekends when they have the rolling carts. (And truthfully, I prefer their mongolian barbecue - lol)Looking for a Good Dim Sum Restaurant in DC?
Seconds on Tony Cheng's (upstairs on weekends) for D.C. (our monthly choice due to its proximity to the Chinatown-Gallery Place Metro Station) and the two Silver Spring - Wheaton, Maryland suggestions, plus Orient East (Silver Spring). New Fortune in Gaithersburg is also getting good reviews on the www.chowhound.com D.C. message board and elsewhere for its dim sum.

For Virginia, we've tried China Garden in Rossyln (very good, but get there early to avoid a long wait -- located right by the Rosslyn Metro Station) and have many chowhound.com recommendations to try Mark's Duck House out in Falls Church. Lucky 3 in Bailey's Crossroad is another cowhound suggestion, but they have converted their weekend dim sum to buffet-style and replaced the carts.
