What should I do in NY and Washington DC?

What should I do? Are there anythings I should know before going? My trip will by 2 days in NY, then take the train to DC for 5 days. Any tips or advice for me? Any locals here that can tell me some hidden treasures in NY or restaurants etc. Same for DC. Thanks. What should I do in NY and Washington DC?
I live in New York and I have relatives in DC

New York:

Go shopping at Macy's

Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center)

Central Park

Chinatown

Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

Eat Junior's cheesecake. They have a location at Grand Central Terminal

Ride the Staten Island Ferry (it's free)

Walk through Times Square

Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Washington DC:

Visit any of the Smithsonian Museums. They're all free. The best museums are Air and Space, and Museum of Natural History. With the exception of the zoo all of the Smithsonian Museums are located near the National Mall

Stop by Union Station. It has shops, restaurants, and a movie theater

Hang out in Dupont Circle. It has art galleries and bars

Grab a burger or hot dog at Ben's Chili Bowl

Check out the Washington Monument

Get around New York and DC by using the subway (in DC it's called the Metro). Get a fun pass in NY and a one day pass in DC.
there are a lot of things to see in D.C. there are all the monuments and museums and most are all in walking distance from the National Mall, so be sure to take some tennis shoes. search for maps online so you can get an idea what all you want to see and how much you are going to walk. i have never been to NY so i can't help there.-have a nice trip : )What should I do in NY and Washington DC?
For DC: Ben's chili bowl is a must!!! Get a half smoke with chili and onions it's one of there top sellers and the location is super easy to get to whether by metro or car. If you want to do some shopping do M street in Georgetown and instead of union station. G-town is great for people watching too if your into that sort of thing. All the Smithsonian's are great. Dupont circle and Adams Morgan are also great because you're away from all the touristy stuff.
The great thing about DC is there are so many FREE things to do. You should hit the Smithsonian museums (I believe there are 7 in the city), the monuments, there are dozens of theatres and parks. Tour the white house.
visit the statue of liberty and eat lunch/dinner at planet holywood in the city. You also must take a picture with the naked cowboy and the wall street bull.
