My friends loved this place when we went to visit last summer. It was truly spectacular.What's the best seafood restaurant in Metro/DC area?

McCormick %26amp; Schmick's - it's pricier than Legal, but the food is even better. There's one in the harbor in Baltimore (if you want a great view to go with it) but there's also on in DC... you'd have to check the address. They're one of the few places that serve Giant Prawns and their selection of fish changes daily/weekly.

And, if you're willing to drive to Baltimore, I have two other recommendations:

The Black Olive - where the waitstaff takes you to the fish counter and talks to you about the flavors of all the fish and helps you select what appeals most to your palate. It's a great place for a celebration.

Kali's Court, also in Baltimore, and around the corner from Black Olive - has phenomenal seafood served with a Greek flair. They also have wonderful steaks (if any of your dining companions prefer) and valet parking because parking at Fells Point can be a horror.

All three of these places will require reservations!
The best I have been to (although I don't go out specifically for seafood) is the Wharf in Alexandria, on King Street.



They make absolutely the best cream of crab soup, so if that's any indication of the quality of the rest of their seafood menu, I would say you wouldn't be disappointed.
My favorite is the Market Inn in Southwest DC. They have great food and great service. Live music each evening in the lounge.



There's a great Sunday Brunch with live Dixieland Jazz music. Try the She-Crab Soup!

I noted that Legal Seafood didn't make the list... but I agree that they're awesome and have probably the best wine list (including tasting flights) in the area.
This area is home to tons of great seafood places...most of the suggestions are great, but I would avoid chains, especially Phillips. They will be overpriced and will not provide the best quality food. Although they may be popular, it's for people who don't know any better.
Take a little road trip to Newport News, VA and head straight to Nick's. It's been in business for decades and has always been worth the trip!
Down by the Wharf near East Potomac Park (Haines Point). Restaurants down there are Phillips, Hogates, and I think there's a Crisfield's down there. All really nice. and there is ample parking. Also, you can buy fresh seafood down there / at market prices. Aside from there, Legal Seafood is in Chinatown, Gallery Place Metro Stop on the Red Line near the MCI Center.

Phillips is the best especially in Ocean City in the summer time where everybody is there. TRY THERE BUFFET!!!
Legals Seafood. Not sure if they have multiple locations, but we ate at the one by the basketball arena when we were there. I love Legals Seafood! (Go for the swordfish steak with a baked potato!)
