I love The Diner in Adams Morgan (NW, DC). A friend of mine put me on to it and the chicken cheesesteak CHANGED MY LIFE. The mac n cheese is so tasty you can get it as a meal or as a side with your pancakes. Open 24 hrs a day! You can eat breakfast at dinner, have wine for breakfast, whatever the options are endless! Food is fab!
Old Ebbitt Grill

A little classy. Dress nice. A suit isn't required, but you'll feel underdressed if your not in at least a pair of Dockers and a decent polo shirt. They have complimentary valet parking. Since it's near the White House, parking is at a premium.
Forget Chinatown. The Chinese restaurants there are AWFUL. There's a nice pizza place on 9th Street called Ella's Wood-Fired Pizza, but the portions are tiny; you do not get a lot of bang for your buck.

In Adams Morgan, I usually eat at Meskerem, an Ethiopian place. Sometimes I'll get takeout from Amsterdam Falafelshop; it doesn't have a lot of seating. However, the falafel and fries are just awesome!

And if you want a really good brunch, check out Asylum on the weekend, which is one of the few places to offer a vegan brunch. Asylum has a grungy biker bar feel, but the food is pretty good.
BERTUCCIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old Ebbit. Or even Fado.
Went to Agraria in Washington Plaza on K St. last night. Fabulous! Enjoy!
