Looking for a unique, funky restaurant in Washington, dc?

i will be up in dc next weekend with some family. What is a yummy place to take them that is also not your typical place to eat. Something really modern or different would be great! thanks so much!Looking for a unique, funky restaurant in Washington, dc?
Ok, for brunch try Utopia for a funky fresh feel and an art gallery experience while you eat, or Georgia Browns for a true fine dining southern brunch experience where you also get to order an entree for take home... both are downtown.

If you're into beers from around the world try the brickskellar in dupont circle... the food is so so but hey have the most beers of any bar in the world...certified by guiness book of world records.

Grapeseed in Bethesda is truly a dining experience. Each menu item has a suggested wine pairing and they always match perfectly. You can get a glass with each course, or just a taste (1/2 glass), order by the bottle too if you like. The food is exquisite and it rivals any restaurant in DC. They've won many wine spectator awards.

Finally, one of the absolute best restaurants in DC in my opinion is Acadiana on 9th and New York. It serves cajun food in a funky atmosphere, great bar and wine list and the best damn charbroiled oysters I've ever had.
Take them to Stars (used to be Mimi's): http://www.starsbistro.com/home.htm

Everything is fresh, fresh, FRESH... the menu is a combination of everything (Mediterranean, Italian, homestyle USA, seafood, you name it) and while on weekends they have live music with brunch, after 7:30 Wednesday thru Sunday, they have singing servers - lol (also 4 to 7p.m. is Happy Hour so drinks, Martinis and bar menu are all half price Mon thru Fri.)

Everyone is friendly and it's just a really fun place to be :)Looking for a unique, funky restaurant in Washington, dc?
It depends what your tastes are and what you're used to.

I suggest:

1) Bethesda - BD's Mongolian Barbeque (make your own stir fry)

2) Downtown/MCI Center area - La Tasca (Tapas)

3) Rockville - Greenfields (Brazilian all you can eat BBQ)

All of the above are I think very good 'food' places - but the decor is not really what I would call 'unique/funky'. For me, substance is more important than style.
Jaleo. Love that place. It is a Spanish tapas restaurant with the best wine, cheese, and seafood/steak ever. It has a very modern decor and great ambient. Lots of great music and a beautiful flamenco dancer mural on the wall.
