What bars/restaurants can we watch UFC 107 in MD/DC/VA area?
Why go out to the bar to watch this? The bars that show the UFC fights get way too crowded with too many drunken people with no manners. The last UFC fight I went to see at a bar, I missed about half of it from the distractions around me.

Washington DC Downtown waterfront?
I am going to DC in a few week and was wonder does any one know where downtown DC waterfront is located? I been there many years ago but don't remember the address. I remember walking down a long street with shops and restaurant and ending up by the water. There were boats at the small dock and street performers. Any info is helpful. Thanks!Washington DC Downtown waterfront?
Could also be Georgetown.Washington DC Downtown waterfront?
You're thinking of Maine Avenue, Southwest. It's located more or less behind L'Enfant Plaza, and walking distance from the National Mall. There are several restaurants, including a Phillips Seafood, a live fish market, a marina, and at the end of the row is Arena Stage. I've never seen street performers there myself, but it's the type of place you could indeed see them.
UPDATE
I agree with Jessica--the description could also apply to Georgetown, particularly Washington Harbor along the Potomac. If this video shows the place you're thinking of, it's indeed Washington Harbor.

DC place with Good food, Great Atmosphere?
I wanna have a birthday outing soon and was wondering where in DC to go?? im thinking an eatery/ restaurant with great music and a cool atmosphere. I would even go for a super fancy restaurant, but the point is I want good food and a great atmosphere which is great for a group. Where to?!DC place with Good food, Great Atmosphere?
There are a bunch of restaurants by the Penn Quarter area (around the Verizon Center). I would reccomend Zengo, Zatyina, Cafe Atlantico, Rosa Mexicana, or Matchbox. I have always been partial to Matchbox.DC place with Good food, Great Atmosphere?
There are two Indian restaurants with yummy food and good atmosphere. We ate at both, so either is good!

I'm going to Washington DC for the weekend. Any suggestions for must see places and places to eat?
I have already been there once before and saw all the monuments and museums...I'm looking for different places to go/see/eat.
For example:
Restaurants
Bars
Clubs
little know treasures :)I'm going to Washington DC for the weekend. Any suggestions for must see places and places to eat?
Georgetown/M St is one area, but not handy by public transit. The U st area (on the green line) is on the younger side, more trendy and cheaper than the Georgetown area. Plenty of good spots.
Also as far as restaurants. If you're looking for something a little nice try Art %26amp; Soul, Art used to be Oprah's personal chef and he has appeared on Top Chef as a guest judge a few times. It's elegant homey food if that makes sense. If you like Italian and you do go to Georgetown try Filomena's.
Georgetown has great restaurants and bars. try Wisemiller's on 36th street for lunch. Then go to M street for shopping, bars, and lots of restaurants. Rhino's and Third Edition are good bars.I'm going to Washington DC for the weekend. Any suggestions for must see places and places to eat?

Dont the cherry blossoms come out pretty soon? Walk along and check them out, stop and buy a couple hot dogs and a coke.
What about a park. And bring a great picnic blanket (and if you don't have a picnic basket, get a brown bag) and a picnic blanket with some great cheese and wine, and grapes, and small sandwiches, I think that would be really romanic. You could do all that for under 50.00 easy.

Does anybody know any restaurants in DC where servers make great money?
When I say great money, I mean 80-100 per shift on weekdays, and maybe 150+ on weekends. I've tried several restaurants and they all have been disappointments. I don't want anything too fancy and upscale, but I do want something that has consistent high volume and a decent tipping clientele. I need to pay off some credit card bills(not alot) so I figure serving part time would help me achieve this goal.Does anybody know any restaurants in DC where servers make great money?

Yeah. Dick's Hang out. It is a gay eatery.

Where can I purchase tej wine (honey wine) online?
I had a wine called TEJ (pronounced tay) at an Ethiopian restaurant in Washington, DC while on vacation. I would like to puchase this wine on line. Does anyone know where it can be purchased?Where can I purchase tej wine (honey wine) online?

If you're still in the DC area, there's a winery in Maryland called Linganore which carries Tej (I don't believe they make it, just carry it.).
http://www.linganore-wine.com/
In the website, they also list area retailers that carry their wines, so you may not have to trek all the way out to the winery...although they have free tastings so it could be worth the trip.
Ironically, if I recall correctly, I think that at the winery they mispronounce the wine "tezh"Where can I purchase tej wine (honey wine) online?

Kid friendly restaurants in MD/DC?
My friend and his wife are in town with their 3 children (under age 6). We are looking for a kid friendly place to eat that is not a chain that is between Baltimore and DC.Kid friendly restaurants in MD/DC?
Wow- that is a big area ( between DC and B-more). I live in Bethesda and if you are in my neck of the woods, would suggest Pines of Rome Italian ( old school family Italian and just forgiving...) or Rio Grande ( Ok, technically a chain as they have one in Dallas- but great Mexican food) or Matuba if they like sushi ( has the conveyer style belt) but for other areas inbetween- ( and in B-more, DO NOT MISS THE PAPER MOON DINER) try www.washingtonian.com and www.washingtonpost.com dining guides for ideas!
ESPN Zone is in D.C. That place is awesome and your kids will love it. On June 24th, Tim Redding is going to be there doing a question and answer session!Kid friendly restaurants in MD/DC?

How Do I get People to ready My Bathroom Blog?
I've created a blog that reviews restaurant bathrooms in the DC area. It's great because there are some nice restaurants out there with some nasty bathrooms. How do I get more people to read it?
www.lavatorylady@blogspot.comHow Do I get People to ready My Bathroom Blog?
When you post this information anywhere, like here, it would help if you created a hyperlink to the website. It makes it a whole lot easier for potential viewers. I like the idea of writing reviews for bathrooms, i guess people want to be informed about that kind of thing too.How Do I get People to ready My Bathroom Blog?
Get a marker and write www.lavatorylady@blogspot.com on the walls of the bathrooms! Or use a sticky note if you are not a criminal.

Does anyone know of any good restaurants near Hotel Washington in DC?
Old Ebbitt's Grill is just a block or two north of there!Does anyone know of any good restaurants near Hotel Washington in DC?
You're very lucky - Hotel Washington is right near the White House, at 15th and Pennsylvania, and also very much near the Penn quarter with great restaurants.
There are a number of good restaurants right near freedom plaza. Although mostly known as a great place to have a cocktail while you watch the sun set, the Sky Terrace Restaurant in your hotel is good, if not stellar. As is the Willard Room and Occidental Grill in the Willard Hotel, practically next door. Before I leave the general area of your hotel, I'll point out there is an excellent national chain (Cosi) and local chain (Potbelly's) for lunch sandwiches, just on the other side of Lafayette square.
On Freedom Plaza (about a block and a half east of you) are several options. On the south side of the plaza is the Reagan International Trade Center. While I don't know the sit down restaurant at all, you can not miss with the food court in the basement for breakfast or lunch. There is some security to get into the buidling - don't bring a penknife with you to the Reagan Center.
On the north is the Shops at National Place, which also has a food court, but there are a couple of great restaurants, too.
Les Halles des Paris is a good french restaurant. Not the best, but solidly good.
But you are very close to even better restaurant areas if you walk about 9 or 10 blocks or take metro one stop to Gallery place. If you go there, you can choose from three of Jose Andres, one of Washington's most accomplished chefs. Jaleo is a wonderful spanish tapas restaurant, usually full, so make a reservation if you can. Cafe Atlantico, started by Andres, but kitchen now run by Katsuya Fukushima, is Caribbean/Nuevo Latino, with a great tasting option. My favorite is Zaytinya, a mediterranean mezze place which is very hot, with a great list of wines by the glass.
Also in this area, check out H street between 6th and 7th, and 7 street from Jaleo (at F and I) is Chinatown, which has not just chinese food but food from all over the place. Some of my favorite places here include Eat First, a little hole in the wall, as well as the Lei Garden, which has an excellent lunch buffet. Also Tony Cheng's Mongolian Barbecue is very good, although it is traditional Mongolian Barbecue, not one of these trendy chains. On 7th street are a few chain restaurants, but also La Tasca, another tapas restaurant, less renowned and more traditional than Jaleo, but also less expensive, and more likely to have a table. :-)
Also in this area, at 400 8th street is Teaism - a great place to pick up a good breakfast or lunch, with fast dinner options also. I really like Teaism - they have a great selection of tea-inspired cuisine, and they are local.
If you're willing to go a little further, you can go to Woodley Park- Zoo station on Metro's red line (get on at Metro Center) and walk over the Duke Ellington bridge to Columbia road and 18th street, the center of cuisine in Washington's Adams-Morgan neighborhood. While for me, the highlight of this neighborhood is the Ethiopian restaurants, especially Fasika's and Meskerem, there are many restaurants here, including Lauriol Plaza, known as the best Mexican Restaurant. Nearby DuPont Circle also has a lot of restaurants, including near by Nora, one of the best restaurants in DC and the late night spot Kramerbooks and afterwords Cafe.
In the other direction from your hotel, in the next 10 to 12 blocks are other restaurants. My favorite, and one of the best restaurants in DC is Vidalia, at 1990 M Street. Run by another of DC's top chef's Jeff Buben, it's really wonderful southern inspired cuisine. Another in this area ix Kaz Sushi Bistro.

Wow! I can't match Julie's thoroughness. However, I'd recommend TenPenh. Right at 10th and Penn (5 blocks away.) Very good Asian Fusion.

Wow! I can't match Julie's thoroughness. However, I'd recommend TenPenh. Right at 10th and Penn (5 blocks away.) Very good Asian Fusion.
What do you recommend me seeing/doing when I visit DC?
What sites, stores, restaurants, attractions are there for me to check out? What do you recommend me seeing/doing when I visit DC?
You should check out the pork barrels, pundits, and wonks. Make sure to wear your tin foil hat to prevent mind control. Avoid drinking the Kool-aid.
It has always been wonderful to take a walk down in Old Town Alexandria, which you can get to by yellow line metro (King street station), and to walk in George Town at night (not accessible by metro). Also during the day, consider visiting the National Mall, where all the museums are. I specifically recommend the Smithsonian Museum. With regards to food, you should definitely try Ravi Kabab in Arlington Virginia, its a Pakistani restaurant about 15 minutes away from DC. Get the (Kabab Karahi). What do you recommend me seeing/doing when I visit DC?
it completely depends on your interests. there is the capitol and the smithsonian. washington monument, jefferson monument, vietnam memorial wall, lincoln monument, you should spend some time on the national mall looking at all that stuff. i personally really enjoyed teh nighttime bus tour of the monuments and stuff. i like the sackett gallery in the smithsonian. i love the national cathedral. there are boat rides on the potomac. there are lots of really good restaurants.
be sure to ride the metro (subway). there is a big mall at crystal city with lots of cool stores.
If you're a history lover go see some of the Smithsonian Museums but be prepared as they are quite expansive and there are a total of 19 different museums - pick and choose for yourself but my fave is the air and space museum

If you like politics go get a tour of the Capitol building or The White House

Other than that theres the National Mall with the Lincoln and Washington monuments, several war memorials, The US national Arboretium, The National Portrait Gallery, The Kennedy Center and any wide number of cool tours you can take throughout the city.
umm go to the something Station. It's a huge mall with food and stuff and a train station. umm go to Lincoln Memorial. go to Busch Gardens. Capital, White House.

Does anyone know of an Indian food delivery (Tiffin) service in Washington DC/Northern Virginia?
A phone number or email address or any other information will be appreciated.I am not looking for a restaurant delivery , but more of a homebased Indian food service that we can pick up or someone can deliver.Does anyone know of an Indian food delivery (Tiffin) service in Washington DC/Northern Virginia?
Wow - that is a controversial question!. . There has been a lot of discussion on various wine discussion sites, and there is no single answer and no consensus at all.. . First of course, India is a huge country with an amazing breadth of cuisine. So your question is a bit like, 'what goes with European food'. There are so many parameters, so many dishes.. . Most people who are asking this question are thinking about hot and spicy foods.. . Everybody has a different perception of chillies. If you are not used to them then you can't taste much, you just want to drink something cold. If you love them and are used to them, then you can also taste other flavours and enjoy wine.. . Some people say that tannins in oaked wine clashes, some people say that a sweeter wine matches better. My friend Warren has set up his own company to sell wine he produced to go with Indian food and has firm ideas on what is required -- see http://www.wineforspice.com/. . Warren says: "The semi-sparkling nature avoids the unpleasant effects of gaseous overload yet retains all the refreshing qualities of a cold beer. Fruitiness and residual sugar in the range rise in relation to the spiciness of the accompanying dish A refreshing wine should also have a good level of mouth-watering acidity but avoid mouth-drying tannin so no red wines for the moment. The wines are also free from oak which clashes with spice giving a bitter harsh after-taste. A good degree of alcohol is required to provide body but excess alcohol can add to the burning sensation of chillies.". . But personally, I prefer to drink red wines and I like a spicy Shiraz or Pinotage. And I find Champagne is also good.. . So my advice is to to make up your own mind. Try your favorite wine and if that doesn't work for you, use what you've learned about wghhat doesn't work for you and proceed from that.. . Enjoy!
I do know of someone that offers home-made tiffin food. Shoot dhaba.togo@gmail.com for more information. People have tried it and say the food tastes just like home-made cooking!

Well, not sure about the prices, but a great place to eat and watch the planes is Indigo Landing, just off the Parkway south of the airport. Also, Chart House in Old Town Alexandria. Lots of activities on the boardwalk there.

There are lots of fantastic restaurants in DC and Alexandria. I haven't lived up there for a while, so I don't have a lot of current info. There's good theater in the District, great Vietnamese food in Clarendon (Arlington). more ethnicities of restaurants than I can name in Adams Morgan. There's Blues Alley in Georgetown.

Is my former employer subject to a fee?
Back in July, I quit working for a restaurant in Washington, DC. When I went in to collect my last paycheck, my boss had lost it and said he would contact corporate to get a new one sent. I have yet to see a single cent of that paycheck. I've contacted the US DOL about it, but I was told by someone that my employer might be obligated to pay me a penalty due to the extreme lateness of this check. Is this true?Is my former employer subject to a fee?

Washington DC tours?
Any ideas on the best tours in washington dc?
What about great family restaurants in DC?Washington DC tours?
They have this hop on hop off tour I just read about its really cost effective and you can pick your own stops I found it on dctours.com and they have so many others there as well.
I worked for the U.S. Senate this summer and took lots of tours in D.C. I have to say my favorite is the Capitol (which I believe is free). The Pentagon is also a nice tour, though you aren't allowed to take pictures. You can always go to the National Mall and visit the Smithsonian museums, all of which are free. As for restaurants, there are lots in Union Station, as well as a mexican restaurant that I liked southeast of Union Station called La Loma.Washington DC tours?
Well I can't tell you that much, but you cant plan before you get there. My sister lives in Alexandria, Virginia (which you can see Washington D.C from her Appartment as it is 5 mins away). And everytime we visit her we think we will plan to do something but we always change our minds as there is so much there!
I went to the USA last year and in each major city there are red Double Decker tour buses. we went on those and it was great. there are a few around and you get to see everything.

How dog friendly is Washington DC?
I'll be going to DC for a weekend and was just wondering if places generally allow dogs. I was in Montreal recently, and they actually allow dogs in clothing stores, dept stores, etc. (Just not restaurants). She's about 25 lbs, and doesn't pee or poop unless shes outside (she doesn't like people watching!)How dog friendly is Washington DC?
D.C. is moderately dog friendly. It's a fine place to live with a dog but I wouldn't recommend bringing a dog as a tourist. There are some small establishments in some of the residential neighborhoods that will let you bring your dog in but none of the bigger places or tourist attractions will allow dogs and most hotels in the city are not pet friendly. You can also NOT take dogs on the metro and you don't want to have to drive and find parking in D.C. Leave your dog at home. There's just not much you can do with a dog as a tourist and it'll just end up sitting alone in your hotel room.
Maybe it's just me, but dogs and cities go together like fresh baked apple pie and last week's unwashed baby diapters.
Dogs? Dogs like to have room to run. They are social animals. Not like cats.
Of all the things I can see myself doing - taking a dog into Washington DC would be pretty low on my list. Let's look at the reasons...
Lots of people, including tourists. That also equates to lots of small children that love to play with dogs. Sure. I just hope your dog doesn't ever bite - or feel intimidated by so many kids wanting to pet her.
At this time of year the public water fountains are still turned off to prevent the pipes from freezing. So, that means buying the dog some bottled water - and I hope you carry a pan for her to drink out of.
All sorts of other wild critters in DC, especially grey squirrels. I'm sure your dog will be fascinated and want to chase the hundreds of grey squirrels she will see. Oh, and then let's add in a few dozen ducks and and a gaggle of Canada geese that didn't fly south for the winter and decided to stay in DC. I am sure her interaction with the geese will be fun.
Finally we come to the traffic and the multitude of people that drive the DC streets that learned to drive in another third world country. If pooch gets off her leash and decides to run out into traffic, rest assured that Waheed, the taxi cab driver, could care less if he gets a little blood on the front bumper of the yellow cab.How dog friendly is Washington DC?

Very. As Harry Truman so brilliantly said: "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog". Obviously he meant more than "Washington is a great place to own a dog!" but an endorsement from a President has to mean something!

What are the best activities for a weekend getaway to dc. Places, restaurants, etc?
This is a tough one and depends on what you like to do.
If you don't mind putting up with a lot of tourists, you can visit the National Mall (the Smithsonian) where all the monuments are and the White House, the Capital, etc. There's also the zoo which is a metro ride away from there where you can see the new baby panda! :)
Other than that, if you want to do some walking, this time of year (this week and such) is the best time to see the cherry blossoms.
You can also head out to Alexandria, VA to Mount Vernon where George Washington lived...you have to drive or take a cab there though.
Restaurants will vary depending on your taste and how much you want to spend. Some areas to check out are Dupont Circle (I recommend Bistro Au Coin for light French food or Bucco di Beppo). Others are the Oval Room, which is really expensive and requires formal attire to be seated. Just above the zoo is Tenley which has a bunch of great restaurants including Mexican, Thai, and others. Another spot is Adams Morgan (a long walk from the Metro or take a cab). They have a ton of great restaurants and nightspots and the culture is quite diversed.
Hope this helps. For the weekend though, I'd recommend doing the national mall in the morning and going out to Dupont or Adams Morgan in the evening on Saturday. What are the best activities for a weekend getaway to dc. Places, restaurants, etc?

There's so much to do if it's your first time in DC. If I only had a weekend, I'd definitely see all the monuments and maybe a museum or two for a quick run-through. The cherry blossoms are beautiful right now but expect crazy crowds. The National Zoo is nice, maybe you'll get to see the new panda cub.
For hot spots, go to Georgetown, Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, Penn Quarter. There are tons of bars and restaurants, you really can't find bad food.

Restaurant Ideas for Prom Fairfax, VA?
I am a junior and our prom is coming up. I am looking for a restaurant that I can make a reservation for a group of about ten-twelve people that is nice enough for prom but also affordable to high school juniors. I live in the Washington DC/Fairfax county area and open to any suggestions. Thank you.Restaurant Ideas for Prom Fairfax, VA?
A good way to find restaurants that are great for something like a prom dinner and also affordable is to look in an online yellow pages! You can find places by the type of food you all like, atmosphere like fine dining or romantic, and features like live music for a fun and different dinner!
For her prom she wants a sure thing. Best bet is to head to a review site, such as www.yelp.com. If she doesn't see enough reviews to make a decision, or she has a specific geographic area in mind, she could use the restaurant search engine of the Washington Post or similar.
If you want Italian, I'd recommend La Dolce Vita in Fairfax. Of course, if it's going to be nice weather out, I'd check next door at Sfizi, and see if Lino will have his patio dining set up.
If you want Thai, and you want affordable, it's not in the most beautiful location, but the interior is just fine - Sakoontra out by CostCo off West Ox %26amp; 7100.
If you want Indian, check out Minerva on Route 50. A little pricier than some, but the food is amazing.
The problem with Fairfax is that most places with good food don't have a really tight decor that would be "nice enough for prom," and the places with nice decor kind of lack on the food.
One last resort would be Bonefish Grill in Greenbriar on Route 50 in
Chantilly.
For my prom dinner my group (it was like 5 couples) we went to the Chart House in Old Town, Alexandria. It is right by the water and so nice. The food is great also. It's a bit pricey but it's not insane and we ate there on our lousy high school money :P Have fun!

I have three days in Washington DC with my best friend. What should we do?
What are the best tourist sites? What are the best seafood and sushi restaurants? What clubs are best for women in their late 30s to go to is they want to hear jazzy music but don't want to be hit on?
What is a good upscale day spa?I have three days in Washington DC with my best friend. What should we do?
I can answer some, but not all, of these questions. On tourist sites, if you are heading out this week, absolutely go see the Cherry Blossoms. They have been at their peak in the last week or so. That puts you right at the National Mall anyway, so you can check out the rest of the scene there (the monuments, Smithsonian museums, etc.). Other fun touristy areas: Dupont Circle, Georgetown.
As for best seafood, Kinkead's (Foggy Bottom area) is a long-established, well known and very popular place for some incredible seafood-IMHO it's the best place in town for seafood. D.C. Coast (downtown) also usually comes recommended.
For sushi, Sushi Taro in Dupont is fantastic (and conveniently puts you near the heart of Dupont Circle, also a great place to explore)-don't be scared away by the less than stellar outside. It's quite nice inside, and the sushi is great. Popular other choices (always on the Wash Post food critic's list) are Sushi Ko (way up in Georgetown, so good if you want a really long walk through G-town or a short cab ride!) and Kaz Sushi Bistro (downtown).
Not too familiar with clubs, but I've heard 18th Street Lounge in Dupont (is that still open?) was always a cool, low-key spot for jazzy music. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.I have three days in Washington DC with my best friend. What should we do?
go to the mall not a mall the mall look at all the monuments and good food is in china town

The only one I know of shaped like a ship is the aforementioned Captain James on Boston St. in Baltimore. HOWEVER, it's not an all you can eat seafood buffet . . . or at least it wasn't the last time I ate there.
Good restaurant, though.
(But if you head up Eastern Ave from there, just a few miles . . . toward Essex . . . there's a REALLY GREAT and REASONABLE restaurant on the left hand side called Greek Village. (Not just Greek food, either . . . all types -- super crab cakes.)things to do in nyc battlefield bad company

Is Takoma Park DC a nice place to live?
I am relocating for DC for work in the next two weeks, but don't know the city and certainly don't know where to live. I'm early 30s, married, with a 14 month old daughter. I would like something where I can wander outside my apartment to restaurants, coffeeshops, etc. I don't want a strong suburban feel, but something more urban where I can walk or bike. I am looking at Takoma Park (DC side) and am wondering if anyone has any comments on the area?Is Takoma Park DC a nice place to live?
We live in the Takoma DC neighborhood and thoroughly enjoy it; our proximity to Metro (Takoma Metro station - Red Line is in the District) and Takoma Park, Maryland, businesses, farmers market, and restaurants makes it very pleasant. There is a strong sense of community here.
When it comes to schools, you may wish to consider the Maryland side over the District (Takoma Park stradles both jurisdictions).
Below are some resources to further research your choice.
It's nice, with a very high level of civic involvement by the residents. I would say that it is a touch suburban - not in the sense of subdivisions with cul-de-sacs and SUVs, but in that it's fairly residential, most buildings are detached single-family dwellings.
Consider Kalorama Triangle; located between Dupont, Adams Morgan and Woodley, it's a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by some of the most amenity-filled communities DC has to offer.
Other good choices would be the western bit of Logan Circle (Between 15th and 12th, M through T, NW), Capitol Hill (5th - 13th, G SE - D NE).
What's your price range? Are you looking to rent or buy, and where are you going to be working? All of these factor into where you will have the best experience. Is Takoma Park DC a nice place to live?
Both the Maryland and DC parts of Takoma Park are good areas to live. (I was born in the MD part!) But seriously if I ever move back to the DC area, I would want to live there for sure. You can walk to lots of places and in in general it's a good area. It's a pretty progressive, liberal area.
If you're going to be in the DC area long-term, as others have said - I wouldn't live on the DC side just because of the school district (one of the worst in the country). Just over the line in Montgomery County they have one of the best public school systems in the country.
takoma park is actually a very nice place to live with ur family u can just walk places unlike in the city where you have to drive and if u walk u have to worry about getting mugged or something
no where is DC is a nice place to live. The only nice place there is the White house

Is there a Chinatown in Washington dc, and/or Maryland?
I saw a map that showed a chinatown in washington dc, but when I searched for info it only showed restaurants, are there markets and shopping like in New York or is it just restaurants? Is there a Chinatown in Washington dc, and/or Maryland?
Unfortunately, the "Chinatown" in Washington is pretty lame - it's definitely not the same as in New York, San Francisco or many other cities. The neighborhood, like many in DC, were largely damaged by the 1968 race riots and are only now starting to recover economically. The Verizon Center (basketball/hockey/concert arena) and the new convention center have helped the neighborhood economically, but are also creating a sort of homogenous and not particularly ethnic or interesting neighborhood. It's not a "destination". I don't think even that many Chinese people live there anymore. It's full of chains like Applebee's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and other chain stores/restaurants like that - they have the name of the store written in Chinese but basically it's just another neighborhood (and not even that nice - it's actually dirty, smells bad - especially if it's hot out, and borderline sketchy). There's no reason to go there unless you're going to something at the Verizon Center or are in that area anyway and want to go to one of the restaurants. There ARE a couple of good Chinese restaurants there - there's actually couple of blocks of decent restaurants and maybe one store - but it's not the same as other cities. If you DO happen to go there to eat, most of the restaurants are on H Street roughly between 5th or 6th and 8th Streets. A couple of good ones are Tony Cheng's and Full Kee. I've had good dim sum at one of the restaurants along there too but can't remember which one (they all have menus displayed outside though). The good thing is that the Metro is right there too.
There are suburbs that have bigger Asian populations - Rockville, Maryland is one - but again, it's basically just a nondescript suburb that happens to have a few decent Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants and a couple of Asian supermarkets.
There is a Chinatown in DC, but it is nothing like in New York. There are a few scattered Chinese Restaurants, some signs are in Chinese and there is a pretty arch, besides that it has been overwhelmed by the Verizon Center. There are lots of places to eat in the area due to its close proximity to the Verizon Center, but they are mostly not Chinese. There is also a mall called Gallery Place near Chinatown, the Spy Museum and the Portait Gallery. Is there a Chinatown in Washington dc, and/or Maryland?
There was one in DC when I lived there. However, they built the new arena in that area so I don't know what's left of it. It started in the area of the DC Superior Court and ran northward for a few blocks. It's within easy walking distance from the White House.
There is a small Chinatown in dc, not as big as NY's and mostly resturants.
Yes, but it's not very big or very interesting. There's very little to see there. It not at all like NYC.

Memorable/amazing restaurants in the DC area?
Please list鈥?br>
My bf鈥檚 birthday is coming up in less than a month. He loves to try new foods and is curious about different flavors. To give you an example of some restaurants we have already tried are: the Himalayan Heritage Restaurant (a Traditional Nepalese and Indian cuisine), Japone (Japanese/Sushi cuisine), Raku (Asian/Sushi cuisine), and Red Lobster (a seafood place) to name a few.
I would like to take him to dinner to a restaurant in which the food is amazing and the location is memorable. Wine %26amp; drinks do not need to be included, due to the fact that we both don鈥檛 drink. Price would have to vary, I don鈥檛 plan on being cheap but I wouldn鈥檛 like to be bankrupt either.
Please do help me!
%26amp; Thanks for the suggestions and time. =)Memorable/amazing restaurants in the DC area?
If he's into trying new foods, I highly recommend Bacchus, located in downtown D.C. (and Bethesda, Maryland) or Zed's Ethiopian restaurant in Georgetown. Bacchus serves middle eastern food and Zed's is YUMMY. Service is good too. :) Wherever you go, enjoy!
My husband and I always try to hit up the Hard Rock Cafe in each city we go to. We just recently went to the Hard Rock in DC - atmosphere was great and the food was amazing!
You could always go to Eastern Market. There are a number of restaurants of various cultures in that area.Memorable/amazing restaurants in the DC area?
When I was visiting, we went to a Thai restaurant called Basura. Yes, Basura means trash in Spanish. But in Thai, it must mean delicious.
It is kind of expensive, but the food is great and unique.
Marrakesh - Moroccan
Rasika - Indian
Dukem - Ethiopian
Jaleo - Spanish tapas
Oyamel - Oaxacan style small plates
There are a TON of great places in the DC area. I often use the reviews from the washingtonian web site to try new places you may want to check them out. One place I like to go for a good experience is 1789. Although they are not very unique when it comes to food, the food is very good it is in a fun location (Georgetown) and it is a jacket required restaurant. Basically it makes a very classy dinar. Despite being a fairly formal restaurant the prices are not out of the world. Most of the entres run around $30. Two people can have a very nice multi course meal with a drink for around $150. If you are on a budget, they offer a pre dinar theater menu which is a lower cost fixed price multi course meal, I could be wrong but I think it is around $40 pp. I normally don't get it because I like their steaks the best and last time I was at the place it was not on the pre-diner menu.
Morton's on Prospect St does steaks the best in the entire city; Comfort food I recommend Founding Farmers (great all organic food), American Cuisine, modern interpretation I'd go to Blue Duck Tavern.
Founding Farmers and Blue Duck Tavern entrees are about $15-$30.
Morton's Steaks are $40+ (An 8 oz filet miginon and a potato will run you $50 or so), but their Hot Chocolate Cake is to die for.
At founding farmers, I prefer the gourmet popcorn of the day ($2) for an appetizer, La Quercia Prosciutto Flatbread ($8) to start out, Southern Pan Fried Chicken with Gravy and Waffles ($16) for an entree, and the Chocolate Moose Bowl for 2 ($10) is great way to end. The portions are so big that the foods I just named would be more than enough for 2 people to share (and they won't hammer you with a sharing surcharge like some restaurants will). Overall, you could be out the door for $50, including tax and tip for 2 people!

Where to eat in DC (metro accessible)?
Hi guys! A friend and I want to eat dinner in DC after class tomorrow. Know any REALLY REALLY good restaurant or cafe in DC or MD that's metro accessible? Any type of food or even bakery or whatever!Where to eat in DC (metro accessible)?
There are tons of options that are Metro accessible. There are three places near Columbia Heights that are pretty good: Sticky Fingers Bakery (also a cafe), which is about a block and a half north of the station; Pho 14, a Vietnamese place just up the road from Sticky Fingers; and Pete's Apizza, which is at the top of the Metro station.
A short walk from the Takoma Metro station is Mark's Kitchen, a tiny little Korean-inspired place that's pretty good.
Across from the White Flint Metro station in Rockville, MD, is the Vegetable Garden, an all-vegan restaurant with Pan-Asian dishes. They have a $16.99 super dinner combo if you're really hungry.
A six-block walk from the Rockville Metro station is Yuan Fu Vegetarian, a smaller pan-Asian place that has the most awesome Sizzling Rice Soup.
Hope that helps.
you can go downtown maybe like to china town it's in dcWhere to eat in DC (metro accessible)?
Oh what choices. Well there is the epicurean by UDC. They have awesome sushi. The address is 4250 Connecuit Avenue. They also have a bar and an a buffet. If you take the train depending where you are coming from it'll be down the street or across the street. It's awesome. I recommend going during happy hour when the sushi's cheap.

I need a cheap fast food restaurant in the Johns Hopkins area of Baltimore.?
I know there's a popeye's not far away, and there is a small (and EXPENSIVE) food court in one of the buildings, but is there anything else? The yellow pages are cumbersome to search and I'd like to go with a place people recommend. I'm taking my 9 year old to the place- so no sushi or anything weird. Just fast, cheap, and good.
Thanks for your help! Sorry to put this under DC- there is no Baltimore in the selection list! Bummer, eh?I need a cheap fast food restaurant in the Johns Hopkins area of Baltimore.?
Not sure how "fast" you want the fast food- but the Paper Moon is a great Baltimore institution. Great food, never boring, and only in charm city! http://www.papermoondiner24.com/
How about the cafeteria at Hopkins. Hospitals are not usually very expensive on their food.I need a cheap fast food restaurant in the Johns Hopkins area of Baltimore.?

Good restaurants in the dc area?
I want to take my mom to dinner for mothers day. She says that she'd like to go some place with an amazing view, or a manor house-like place. We live just north of dc and are willing to go anywhere less than a hour and fifteen minutes away. I'm not too worried about price. ThanksGood restaurants in the dc area?
I'm sure all the places with views from manor houses are booked up by now. Why don't you make your mother dinner? Only an ice-cold, shallow, Montgomery Co. matriarch with no heart would prefer someone else's estate or view to that.Good restaurants in the dc area?

Interesting restaurants in DC??
i need to find an interesting place to have dinner in DC. Interesting takes on common food, a cool atmosphere...idk, something different. It's for my 18th birthday.
and not too expensive. lolInteresting restaurants in DC??
Here are some suggestions:
Italian food
Bucca de Pepe in Dupont-Make a reservation to eat/be seated in their kitchen and watch your meal being cooked! This is so fun tell them that it's your bday /order dessert and they sing and bring out a candelabra. They also do family style or smaller portions.
www.bucadibeppo.com
OR
Maggiano's-Italian food (Chevy Chase-Mazza Gallery)
OR
Lucky Strike Lane-Gallery Place
Bowling and a restarant combined-regular fun food but a little more upscaled versions of pizza, wings etc. --I couldn't find a website but here are some of the food items. www.lvrj.com/living/7972432.html
OR
Spanish - Rosa Mexicano-you can get your host to make homemade guacomole at your table
OR
Jaleo or Zantinya -Tapas (Gallery place) Your friends and family can share different tapas and try new things. Jaleo has paella.
American City Diner-watch black and white movie while eating American food (Connecticut Avenue) burgers, shakes
A old stand-by Cheescake Factory -where can you go wrong w/ great dessert.
Jackie's in Silver Spring-(right on the edge of DC)
Thai
There are several good places in Dupont that aren't to expensive.
If you like greek food there is a place called 2 chefs in arlington. it has the best greek food. There is lots of cool places there is a place on wisconsin ave I think it is still there called bds mongolian grill. I ate there it is awesome it is a stir fry place you can pick whatever you want and then you take it to the counter and they cook it up for you all fancy. it is very reasonably priced for awesome food. DC has all kinds of great restaurants I HOPE YOU HAVE AHAPPY BIRTHDAY Interesting restaurants in DC??
Happy Birthday! Two options, Ethiopian or Indian! There are a couple of Ethiopian Restaurants in Adam's Morgan. Meskerm is the local favorite. I also like Zed's on M st in Georgetown. Very communal you eat with your hands. It is fun. There is a great Indian Restaurant that is not overpriced but really cool. It is in Cleveland Park, called Indique.
It's not the coolest atmosphere, but check out Meskerem in Adams Morgan. It's Ethiopian, so you eat with your hands, picking up the stews with pieces of teff bread called injera. It's not at all common (except in the DC area maybe), but it's certainly different.
The most unusual experience i've had in the city (was also a BD party) was Marrakesh at 617 New York Ave N.W. (http://www.marrakesh.us/). You get a perfect combination of an atmosphere, various food, good prices, and entertainment
Take the metro to Adam's Morgan. There is a row of "different" restaurants to try. Lebanese Taverna serves Lebanese food....pretty good. Nice atmostphere. I'm a picky eater and I liked it.fun girl games game of thrones book

I find Fourth Estate to be romantic... it's powerful and sexy to me... but not everyone would agree. Marcel's is classically romantic and so is Palena. I've also only listed the restaurants that have incredible food as well as a romantic atmosphere, so no worries there :)
You may be limited in choices based on where you can get a reservation at this point, but you won't be disappointed with any of the places listed here.

Why is Washington, D.C. getting a new restaurant/cultural trend?
Please read all of this detail carefully. It will strongly help you answer my question:
I recently noticed on the Washington Post, DC is getting many new restaurants and an entirely new cultural scene, to add to what DC has to offer for tourists besides the U.S. Government, the memorials and monuments, and the Smithsonian, and local residents are taking notice. Also, Washington, D.C. got two more AAA-rated Four Diamond restaurants this year compared to last year. Soon, Washington, D.C.'s restaurant and cultural scene might become somewhat equivalent to San Francisco's!
Read this link to help you answer my question:

I will appreciate it if you can make your answer as detailed as possible. Please include as much detail and points of view that come to your mind. Always remember, answering questions on Yahoo! Answers should mean more than just more points on your account, it should also mean helping people. Thank you for being helpful! Why is Washington, D.C. getting a new restaurant/cultural trend?
There has always been a very diverse dining scene in DC. I think that the writers are trying to make something from the common. It is likely that more unique culturally diverse are opening than classic american fare but that has been the trend in DC for as many years as I've been going there - 30.

What do you tip a cab driver in the DC area?
Specifically, Bethesda/Chevy Chase. A "best answer" will acknowledge the strange fare system (or explain it to me), then offer a percentage.
When I get off the Metro, its a 30 min walk to my place. When I come home late from the bars, the buses are not running, and I take a cab. I think the fare is between $7-10. I never know what to tip! Please help, thanks! (At restaurants, I usually leave 20+%, if that helps..)What do you tip a cab driver in the DC area?
This is the way I have always done it... I start out with a flat 2 dollar tip for any ride... if it goes over 7 minutes, add another dollar... fourteen minutes, add another dollar...For every 7 minutes you are in the cab... add a dollar !
So a 20 minute ride would net a 4 or 5 dollar tip, depending on if you round up or not !!!
Around 15 percent is usually right on point, though it's trickier with cabs, because you have to do the math really quickly, while the driver is waiting for you! It's a little easier in a restaurant, where you've actually got the time to look the bill over, and then you just have to add an amount to the credit card receipt, rather than fumbling for the correct change!
That said, since you take the journey fairly often, you only have to figure it out once or twice to get a pretty good handle on it. When you're tipping in a taxi, it's usually pretty common to round up to the next whole dollar amount; that way you can hand the driver a bigger bill and just say "give me X amount back."
You say the journey is usually between $7 and $10. So that means -- mathematically at least -- you'd usually be giving a tip of around $1.05 (15% of $7) and $1.50 (15% of $10.) If you were feeling more generous and wanted to go with 20%, you'd be looking at a $1.40 to $2 range. That said, it might just be easier to go with two bucks all the time -- it's 20% of the top end of the fare range you gave, so it's always going to be about right. Since it's an easy amount to have on you, as well -- or to subtract from whatever bill you're handing the driver -- it should be pretty easy. And then you can round up around that -- so if the fare is $9.75, you can figure $2 onto that for a tip, making it $11.75, and then hand the driver a $20, and just ask for $8 back (rounding it up to 12.)
Does that make sense? I hope so! Good luck with it all -- tipping is difficult to navigate sometimes. I just gave some tips for tipping in foreign countries, actually: good timing! http://windowseat.travelocity.com/2008/0鈥?/a>What do you tip a cab driver in the DC area?
what you have shared, i think a good tip would be at least 3-5 dollars, if that, considering the short distance from the origin destination to your final destination.
go to the website listed below.....
i just did it for myself from one destination to another and it was accurate. try it......this is a great tool to refer to when traveling in dc via ca
i hope this helps!

How do you go about starting a restaurant in Charlotte NC.?
I am now residing in the DC area but want to relocate to NC and start my own buisness but do not fully have the funds, who do I turn toand or whats the best way to go about doing it?How do you go about starting a restaurant in Charlotte NC.?
I think you are biting off more than you can chew. Unless you have a tremendous support system in NC, you might want to rethink doing two serious decisions at the same time. Relocating is very difficult without starting a new business and without the financial resources. However, if you are moving home with family and will have free rent, food, and a time period to get your business going without financial pressures, then I suggest you go for it. If not, I suggest you get into a micro-lending organization in NC. North Carolina leads the nation with great micro-lending organizations. I suggest you get into a circle loan group where you will have support. I highly recommend both Good Work and Self-Help in North Carolina.
Microenterprise Defined
AEO and its members have defined microenterprise as a business with five or fewer employees requiring $35,000* or less in start-up capital. AEO estimates that there are over 20 million U.S microenterprises, which represent 17% of all private employment in the U.S. In addition, microenterprise represents a path from poverty to financial security for many low-income individuals.

The estimated 600 microenterprise development organizations (MDOs) operating in the U.S. exist to support disadvantaged entrepreneurs as they start or expand their businesses. MDOs can increase the chance of business success by bridging the gap between disadvantaged individuals and the tools they need to start and grow successful businesses. MDOs offer business training, technical assistance, access to capital, and other services to entrepreneurs to assist them in realizing their dream of business ownership. For many low-income entrepreneurs MDOs represent the only opportunity to access the capital and business tools necessary for business start-up.

Entertaining restaurants in dc?
i'm celebrating a birthday and I want a place that has good food, kinda of dressy, and an awesome entertaining atmosphere!!!! Any place with great music like soul/r%26amp;b/ or hip hop would be so amazing!
Thank you!Entertaining restaurants in dc?
You should try Posh Supper Club in downtown DC, it sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Last time I visited family in DC they took us to a Middle Eastern restaurant called Casablanca. It was not what I would have chosen (or even considered), and it was fantastic.
Not only did I love the food (who knew?) but the entertainment was also unique. (An amazing belly dancer.) Parties of four or more are seated in banquettes enclosed in tent-like cloth, and you sit on the floor. (No tight pants, and make sure your shoes slip off easily.)
I would go there again on a special occasion without hesitation, even though superficially it doesn't seem to have any of the features I would have thought I'd like. Maybe your experience might be similar!Entertaining restaurants in dc?
Check out Georgetown they have a bunch of great places down there. Or check out the waterfront. It's getting really nice out lately and the waterfront should be getting pretty busy.
Oh yes there are a lot of good places but if you look at an online yellow pages you can find all sorts of restaurants by their atmosphere, features, type of food etc. There are a few places that play live music that would probably be nice to go to. Some are Twins Jazz and Madam's Organ Restaurant %26amp; Bar!!pop cap games virtual villagers 5

Recommendations: fun nightlife for 2 40something year old women in Washington DC on the weekend.?
We're both love music and want to get out friday and saturday nights. But I don't want to end up somewhere too "young" Also still deciding where to stay - Alexandria is the leader right now. And restaurant suggestsions would be great too. Help!Recommendations: fun nightlife for 2 40something year old women in Washington DC on the weekend.?
You don't say what kind of music you like - there area all kinds in DC!
If you are in Alexandria, and like folk, country and bluegrass music, then Tiffany Tavern, one of the best folk venues is in the area, as is the Birchmere, which is likely the #1 place to hang out and hear great folk and folk rock music. Tiffany Tavern tends more toward bluegrass, the Birchmere more toward rock. Another venue for folk, in Arlington, is Iota.
In DC, the U Street Corridor is the place to find a good Jazz club. Take metro to U Street/Cardozo/African American Civil War memorial - Lincoln Theatre is across the Street, Ben's Chili Bowl next door, and Bohemian Caverns a block south, plus plenty of other things. The 9:30 club is just south of here, with lost of rock groups.
Adams Morgan is another area, with Madams Organ as a live music venue, and Heaven and Hell a dance club. This last might be a little bit young.
Don't also forget the Kennedy Center, where a free concert occurs every day at 6, and there are jazz evenings. Their ongoing play "Shear Madness" is great, too. And don't dismiss theatre in washington - there is plenty, from Shakespeare in several venues, to Arena Stage and Wooley Mammoth and Source Theatre. Half Price tickets are available from the cultural alliance of Washington at 7thh and D streets I believe.
Pick up, if you can, a Friday Washington Post, or a City Paper. I find the listings easier to navigate in the Post, but both can show you the richness of this town!
There are also comedy clubs - check out the Improv.
On Restaurants, I won't give you many restaurants, I'll give you neighborhoods. Chinatown Penn Quarter [Metro: Gallery Place Chinatown]; Adams Morgan [Metro: Woodley Park Zoo, then walk over the bridge and on to 18th St], U Street [Metro: U Street]
My favorite Restaruants in DC include
Bistro Bis, Cafe Berlin (near Capitol Hill)
Zaytina, Jaleo, Teaism, Eat First, Tony Cheng's, Lei Garden [Chinatown/Penn Quarter]
Vidalia, Kaz Sushi Bistro [Foggy Bottom]
Nora, Meskerem, Fasika's [Adams Morgan]
Its hard to add to the above poster...yes pickup a Friday Wash. post and look at weekend section or a City paper.Old town Alexandria is nice to walk around and pop in and out of shops and restaurants..and clubs.Just Metro in to K street and walk around Gtown area or whatever you are into....Its hard to make recommendations since you did not mention your food or music tastes ..or your budget! Old town is a nice place to stay on the water or Clarendon Metro area of Arlington......right across from DC...pretty safe areas.

Haunted Restaurants In/Near Washington DC/Baltimore?
Hi,
I'll be taking my family on a trip to DC/Baltimore in a few weeks and we were looking at restaurants. We are not into the big chain restaurants and we are looking for something with a good atmosphere. We love places that have historical significance and/or places that are out of the ordinary. We would love to eat someplace that is supposedly haunted. I was hoping some of you would be able to suggest a few places.
ThanksHaunted Restaurants In/Near Washington DC/Baltimore?
Well, can't say much about haunted restaurants, but can recommend Gadsby's Tavern in Old Town, Alexandria, VA. George Washington lived down the street and tied many "ones" on at the Tavern. They have characters on weekends. Not sure about weekdays. The food is great btw. My favorite is GW's fav...a stuffed cornish game hen. Most of the founding fathers have made their way to Gadsby's.
You can eat then take the ghost tour of Old Town.
Gadsby's is at the corner of Royal and Cameron Streets.

Are there bars open on Thanksgiving in DC?
My little sister is turning 21 on November 25, so we want to take her out at midnight for her first legal drink. Are there any places (bars, restaurants, nightclubs) open at midnight on Thanksgiving in the DC metro area? Arlington would be preferable, but we're also willing to go into the city (or even stay in the suburbs!).Are there bars open on Thanksgiving in DC?
Definitely! Go right over the Key Bridge and into a few places in Georgetown at Midnight (and tell everyone there it's her birthday... some cute boy will buy her a beer!). Arlington will be open as well, but much more action right in DC. Have fun ~

I'm looking for a good Shabu Shabu place near Baltimore (or DC).Is there a good Shabu Shabu restaurant in or near Baltimore?
The Japan Inn on Wisconsin in DC was terrific and Bob's 88 used to be pretty good, but I believe both are closed now. You can try the Blue Ocean in Fairfax, but you need to give them advance notice to get Shabu Shabu. http://dc.metromix.com/restaurants/japan鈥?/a>

Which Restaurants has President Obama visited in Washington DC?
For starters:
** Ben's Chili Bowl
** Ray's Hell Burger (Arlington, Virginia)
** Equinox
** Five Guys
** CitronelleWhich Restaurants has President Obama visited in Washington DC?
Just follow the Republican mob. They can be seen going through the trash looking for receipts. I'm being completely serious.
He visited a Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington and a Five Guys (burgers) location in DC. I think he's also been to Ben's Chili Bowl, which has been around for 50 years and is a Washington institution.Which Restaurants has President Obama visited in Washington DC?
Probably the most expensive places around since it is on our nickel.
Plus, why go out he has the most expensive chef's preparing his food at the white house--again on our nickel!
Despite what "Redhead" said, when the President goes out to eat, he pays for the meals--the tab is NOT picked up out of tax dollars. ALL Presidents go out to eat on occasion. The first President Bush was fond of a Chinese restaurant near Falls Church. President Clinton was fond of fast food.
George W. Bush didn't go out that much, but his daughters did--seemingly all the time during the first years of his presidency.
You can argue that the taxpayers pick up the tab for Secret Service protection, but that again goes for all presidents, and is independent of whether he's going to a meeting, to make a speech, or having dinner out with his family.
As for President Obama, as has been pointed out above, he is fond of burgers, hot dogs, and chili, although when he's with his wife he does go to fancier places. When he went to Ray's Burgers in Arlington, he personally paid for his entire party, including, I believe, the reporters typically at his side.
As for the White House cooking, the taxpayers do pick up the cost of the chef(s) (which are at Civil Service pay scales, not the very high salaries that top chefs typically receive), but the President pays for the food used for family meals. The taxpayers pick up for official meals at the White House, such as a reception for the British Prime Minister.

Could someone give me some ideas of the best hotels in Washington DC to stay?
We want to be close to all the sites(Smithsonian, etc), close to a train station, restaurants and a safe area. Any help would be appreciated. No luxury priced hotels. Thanks..Could someone give me some ideas of the best hotels in Washington DC to stay?
I stay at the ritz carlton. They have 3 location in or outside dc depending on the area you are exploring. You can get good rates too for a really nice hotel. It is a classic hotel, they have bus services so you don't have to spend your money on the metro, and goodies in the lobby!
I deff recommend.
The white house :) hahaCould someone give me some ideas of the best hotels in Washington DC to stay?
You asked for the "best" hotels, but you say you don't want luxury-priced. The best ones are going to be expensive.
I've stayed at the L'Enfant Plaza, which has a Metro station below it. It's convenient, but it's pricey, and I found the staff a bit snobby.
I live here. If I were you, I would do it like this: get a hotel just outside the city (Arlington etc.) and take the metro downtown. Now expect to be in the city all day so bring your water bottles and cash. Also expect to either walk or take the metro everywhere.
It's not like the beach, you're not going to be able to see everything and then go back to your rooms for lunch, and then go back out... the city sucks you in.
I also live in the metropolitan area....And agree with the others...If you stay somewhere safe in DC it is going to be pricey...
You should try Arlington Va OR in Alexandria Va, Those are both right outside of DC....maybe 15-20 minutes away and have hotels close to metro's.
I can help you if you would like add more details ad I will ty and find some for you.
Good luck
Hotel Harrington. It's the cheapest hotel in downtown DC. It's right near all of the Smithsonian Museums. Rooms are $100/night. It's not a sleazy hotel like Super 8.

Where is a good meeting point between DC and NYC for a couple ?
My significant other and I live in each city and want to meet in between but I don't know where to suggest a place that isn't too expensive but still has some sort of entertainment/nice restaurants/bars etc for us to find something to do ?Where is a good meeting point between DC and NYC for a couple ?
Philadelphia is great, about halfway, a little closer to NYC, but there are tons of things to do and a wide range of prices for hotels, restaurants and bars. Wilmington, DE is less expensive and still a decent choice but Philly's got a lot more to offer.
There is a great website called www.meetways.com that allows you to enter two addresses and what you would like to do and then gives you a place half way in between. That may help in terms of finding a good meeting point.
Meet up in Philly. Check the www.GoPhila.org for hotel deals and events information.
May I suggest Trenton, NJ - the state capital of NJ and a pretty historic city in its own right. I doubt that Trenton is as expensive as Philly.
I'm going to assume that each of you is travelling by Amtrak? Trenton is less than an hour from NYC and up to 2 hours from DC. Philly is the more accurate halfway spot but the city is expensive. Atlantic City is too much out of the way and requires a separate train ride unless each of you is willing to meet in Philly and take the train. Atlantic City is just as expensive as Philly and almost rivals NYC, especially with food.
Atlantic City, NJ
Philly or Wilmington would be about halfway between. Philly is a great city. I don't know too much about Wilmington. Baltimore is always great too, but it's definitely closer to DC, and probably 3.5 to 4 hours from NYC. Also, the beaches of NJ, DE, or MD would be nice, and not too expensive this time of year.
ATlantic City, NJ would be about a three hour drive for each of you and there is plenty to do there. Just pick a hotel to meet at like maybe Ceasers or Harrahs.
Alexandria,VA
Nice hotels, restaurants, a lot of fish restaurants. The Potomac is nice and a lot of romantic restaurants on it.
How about Wilmington, DE. It's not a huge city, but I am sure there are bars and restaurants, etc.
Wilmington, Delaware
Cute little town, about 1/2 way and serviced by Amtrak.
Or Try Phillysubway application beef o bradys
