You might want to head to Adams Morgan, which is not close to a Metro station, but is near several bus lines. Both The Diner and Amsterdam Falafelshop are open very late at night. I think The Diner is 24 hours a day while the falafel place is open until 3 or 4 a.m. There are also a few jumbo slice places up and down 18th, and they may also be open past midnight.
You can also check out Ben's Chili Bowl on U Street, not far from the U Street station on the Green Line. I know they're open pretty late, as my boyfriend and I have gotten veggie chili fries there after concerts at Club 9:30. I think they're open until around 4 a.m.
Food for Thought, in the Black Cat on 14th Street (near T) is open until around 2 a.m. The only thing I don't like is you have to show your ID and get your hand stamped even if all you're doing is eating at the restaurant. But it's also pretty near the U Street stop. Can you name or list any diners/restaurants in Washington DC that stay open late at night?
The above responder has great suggestions.
Also try:
The burger place on Connecticut 1-2 blocks south of Dupont Circle. Open till 4 or 5 a.m. every day I believe.
Also Moby Dick just around the corner from that on N and 19th is open till around the same time, on weekends though.
