I want to take our son to DC, but my mother-in-law...?

Will insist we leave him with her.

We want to go to a restaurant in DC and then head back to MD to visit with her again.

The reason I'd like to take him with us is that she will have 2 other older kids to watch (her daughter is recovering from surgery)... And she once allowed one of those kids to put a pillow over his face at 3 months old. He's now 1 1/2, but I'm still weary of her abilities to care for him.

We're just visiting for the weekend, so she will want to spend time with him (which is great!). But I am hesitant to leave her with him and the older kids.

Here's my question:

Should we just skip my make-up birthday trip to DC or... If we take our baby, what should I say to her that is reasonable, but won't make her angry? She will pressure my husband and he will, in turn, pressure me.I want to take our son to DC, but my mother-in-law...?
Don't cancel the trip. Unfortunately, this issue will constantly repeat itself deal with it now.

Let her see grandson. Just take son to dinner, If she begs/pressure etc for you to leave her with baby.

Just say thank you I am just not ready for that yet as a mom. Thank you for the offer.

No explanation why you are ready (due to concern) Just not ready -period.

Good luck

Better to practice now this may be repeated several times in the years to come. You as a parent do not become less concerned about who you leave your child with. It continuesI want to take our son to DC, but my mother-in-law...?
Skip the trip to DC and spend the time with your mother-in-law.
