Where can i find the most authentic mexican restaurant in the DC area?? it MUST be authentic?

i'm going to the DC area next month and i want to ttake my girlfriend to a very authentic mexican restaurant, we don't care if its fancy or sketchy as long as its some real mexican food. it could be a taqueria for all i care, but as long as its good then i don't care. any help?Where can i find the most authentic mexican restaurant in the DC area?? it MUST be authentic?
Gotta agree with Guajillo's. I would suggest one of their burritos, with a mojito to drink.... both of them are outstanding.
Sorry to say I've never found anything but a knock off varieties of Tex-Mex. Any other authentic ethnic cuisine you could ever desire is there except Mexican. I suspect it's partly because property and rental costs are so high in that area. Also, most of the local snobs don't consider authentic Mexican food to be real international cuisine. I used to live in SOCAL and we had great taqueria / burrito shops. I have found in Arlington Guajillo Mexican Cuisine at

1727 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA (703) 807-0840 to be one of the best. Jaelero's in Dupont and Cleveland Park is not bad but Guajillo is the best. They have Cerviche which is to die for and they use lamb meat as well which is authentic but not done that often.

In an industrial area about 5 miles out of DC- this is the real deal- the staff do not speak much English, so either point at what you want on the menu or bring an interpreter!
It might not be Mexican (some of the restaurants are El Salvadoran, or a mix of both), but try some of the places on Columbia Rd., NW in Adams Morgan (heading north). You would think you're back in some 3rd world Central American country. No A/C, staff speaks little-to-no English, credit cards not accepted, etc. But the food is decent.
My favorite Mexican Restaurant is Rio Grande Cafe. It's not exactly in DC but it is in Arlington, VA
The DC area has a large Salvadoran population, so you'll get mixed fare rather than the 'authentic' Mexican restaurants elsewhere.Check out Samantha's Restaurant (631 E. University Boulevard / Silver Spring, MD; # 301.445.7300) for a good Mexican/Salvadoran menu. The District also has some very good Argentine and Spanish restaurants worth a visit.
GOOD LUCK finding this. The DC area doesn't have anything remotely authentic when it comes to mexican food... :(
Go to Carolos' house. He lives in GTown and his wife makes the best authentic Mexican food, tell him I sent you and your good to go.
